In this article, Barry Rudolph sheds some light on a key component for this effect and how it can also be applied during mixing and mastering. It helps to record analog sources with vibey gear in order to capitalize on their analog-ness before any sound hits our DAW. Most of us work primarily in the digital world, where plugins model analog devices, but there are a certain few physical devices that you should know about that absolutely provide that magic analog sound. Starting in September 2022, at the suggestion of some of our early customers, we began including a removable 3/4” Velcro® strap to help you easily and properly store your cable when not in use. Many audio creators are enamored with the idea of “analog” sound and we receive questions about how to best achieve this analog sound. Our cables also utilize a 95% coverage braided copper shielding and a larger PVC outer jacket (compared to other cables) to eliminate outside interference and protect the inside wire. Cheaper or less expensive guitar cables you might find at your local music shop will have higher capacitance where the signal will significantly degrade – especially at longer lengths. Capacitance, in case you’re interested, measures the integrity of the source signal over a measurement of length (e.g., 10ft, 20ft, 30ft). We use some of the lowest capacitance 20 AWG cables on the market today at 20pF/ft. And we prefer soldered over any of the solderless options out there. ![]() And the Squareplug™ SP500s and SPS5s maintain such a low profile on any pedalboard without sacrificing quality. This creates a clean connection between the cable and the plug.įor patch cables, we just knew we had to go with Squareplug™ for all of the same reasons. Instead, it uses a copper pin that shoots directly into the plug. These plugs eliminate the traditional tin plate, found in most plugs, where the cable is typically soldered. The G&H High Clarity Profile plugs far exceeded our expectations. While testing countless plugs, we looked at functionality, feel, reliability, and consistent quality. It also includes the carefully selected parts we source for our products. This helps us to ensure each cable can withstand the rigors of the road and maintain a lifetime of clarity and signal strength – all from the very first time you plug it in.Īnd our idea of craftsmanship goes way beyond just assembly. Each are soldered and assembled by hand, with precision, and fully tested in our shop before they are shipped. From day one, we knew we needed to place a tremendous focus on how we build our cables. So, what makes our cables so great? A lot of reasons. Our cables, G&H plugs, and the Techflex™ shielding we use are all 100% made in the USA. You’ll never have to think about cables again. We also offer our instrument and XLR cables in a fully sleeveless version for musicians that prefer the look, feel, and flexibility of a traditional cable.Īll of our cables are soldered and assembled by hand in at our shop in Alexandria, Virginia, and come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. You can read more about our cables in detail HERE. To (literally) tie it all together, we are now adding a removable 3/4″ Velcro® strap to help you store your cable when not in use. In addition to an added layer of protection, this external sleeve adds a bit of rigidness to the cable which makes it easier to handle. We put our cables in Techflex™ protective shielding with some cool colors to choose from (keep an eye out for limited runs in new colors). For the instrument cable ends, we chose G&H High Clarity Profile plugs, and Squareplug™ SP500s and SPS5s for our patch cables – we found these to be the best around after testing countless others. That’s also nearly half the capacitance of other high end cables (including Mogami and Canare). Our instrument cables lead the industry with a capacitance of 20pF/ft (that’s nerd-speak for no tone loss). ![]() So why do we connect all of this expensive gear with cheap cables that degrade the very tone we are seeking to achieve? Unfortunately, cables are too often an afterthought, but they shouldn’t be – they are such a critical component to any musician’s setup or rig.Īfter nearly a year of testing and tweaking, we are excited to launch Signal Chain Audio Labs, a new company that builds pro audio instrument and microphone cables for home, studio, and stage that provide musicians with pristine sound clarity. Guitars, basses, pickups, pedals, rack effects, more pedals – the possibilities are truly endless. As musicians, we are constantly perfecting our tone.
